private yoga portola valleyOur goal is to make yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age, injury, or flexibility.

Private Yoga - Practicing yoga can improve your overall well-being and strength. However, if you are challenged due to injury, recent surgery, or health issue, a fast-paced vinyasa class may not be for you. Private Yoga therapy and one-on-one instruction can serve as a safe alternative.

Group Yoga Classes - We offer smaller, focused therapeutic classes and workshops, and one-on-one sessions tailored to individual needs. We focus on body mechanics within postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to create a customized holistic approach. Scroll to the end of the page for details or Schedule a Yoga Class

Yoga Workshops - Fitness Events & Workshops are posted on Eventbrite. We offer Yoga workshops to help with all sorts of pain: Neck & Shoulder, Hip, Foot & Ankle and Low Back. We always have something on the schedule and would love for you to join us.

Meet Our Yoga Instructor

Whether in private session, classes or workshops, Yoga teachers at Pacific THERx have received additional training from veteran physical therapists and yoga instructors. Yoga therapy is an option for clients wishing to transition from formal physical therapy to either public classes or to help develop an individualized home practice.

SAVE THE DATES - YOGA WORKSHOPS IN 2018

While we will likely add more, these are a few of the Yoga Workshops slated for 2018.

  • Amy's Yoga Workshops are therapeutic workshops: Anatomy, balanced alignment, and pathology and therapeutics discussed during all workshops.
  • Workshops include 1 hour of anatomy and pathology, followed by 90 minute practice to put it all together. Learn how to avoid any yoga related injuries with a deeper understanding of the body.
  • These workshops are ideal for yoga students or teachers that would like to deepen their knowledge in anatomy and therapeutics.

January 20, 2018 – Yoga for Low Back Pain
Keep your back healthy with an understanding of deep spinal stabilizers and learn to facilitate proper recruitment during yoga asanas. Deepen your understanding of lumbar pathology, such as disc bulge, facet joint hypertrophy, and osteoporosis and learn precautions with certain yoga poses.

March 17 – Yoga for Hip
Learn common hip pathologies, such as femoral acetabular impingement (FAI), and how to effectively stretch/open your hips, while simultaneously protecting the hip joint.  Learn about key muscles that become tight or guarded, such as your psoas, and how to strengthen muscles such as gluteus medius and incorporate healthy hip musculature recruitment in yoga.

May 12 – Yoga for Neck and Shoulders
Come relax your overworked neck and find key stabilizers of your scapula. Open your upper back (thoracic spine) to take stress off neck and shoulders. Learn the importance of key rotator cuff muscles, and how to integrate into yoga postures and relax overworked muscles, such as upper trapezius, scalenes, levetor scapulae, and SCM.  Learn to access and strengthen the often weaker deep neck stabilizers, such as multifidus, longus capitus and longus colli.

June 9 - Yoga for Knee/Foot and Ankle
Gain a sense of increased balance and stability by learning to work with the lower legs, ankles, and feet. Learn how to use your feet to protect the knee and structures above. Alignment of the foot is imperative in all standing poses, and improves alignment and proper activation of musculature up the chain. Discuss common foot/ankle and knee injuries, such as patellofemoral pain, meniscus tears, and osteoarthritis.

YOGA CLASSES & PRIVATE SESSIONS

Aligned Hatha Yoga - This class offers personal attention and alignment focused yoga. Taught by a licensed Physical Therapist, we hignlight a different focus each week and with an eye on proper form, ensure your healthy practice. This is a great way to challenge yourself in a safe environment!

Restorative Yoga - This class focuses on finding healthy movement in the body and allowing the body to release tension/tightness. We utilize supportive bolsters to achieve relaxing poses to allow the muscles and connective tissues to stretch in a safe and gentle way.

Gentle Yoga - This practice builds on the body awareness lessons of Restorative Yoga and delves deeper into generating heat and building strength. We explore safe balance postures, maintain mobility in our joints, deepen our sense of body alignment, and practice mindful meditation.
